Project Apartment 050923
Customer Request
I would like to furnish my seaside holiday home in Alassio, Liguria, near Finale Ligure and Sanremo. It is a family holiday home that will be used at different times of the year. I would like to rely upon your designers for a complete interior design project for the living and sleeping areas.
The 140 sqm apartment is directly on the seafront. It is a penthouse on the 6th and final floor, featuring a spacious terrace with an exclusive view of Alassio Beach. The property is conveniently located near Via Roma, the "Budello", and in proximity to the Grand Hotel Mediterranée.
As you enter the house, a hallway with access doors to the bedrooms and bathrooms leads to the open plan living area, which includes the kitchen and lounge, and extends out to a terrace with sea views. The living area is bathed in natural light, thanks to two windows and two French doors that open wide. We've selected light grey herringbone tiles for the floor, complemented by matching skirting boards. While the walls and ceilings are currently painted white, I am open to the possibility of changing the colour. During the renovation, we ensured that water, gas, electricity, and all necessary preparations for the installation of radiators and heating were in place to ensure comfort during the coldest seasons. My preference leans toward neutral and light colours such as white, cream, beige, and grey. I have a deep appreciation for modern, well-designed furniture with a keen attention to detail, and I eagerly anticipate receiving ideas, decorating tips, and suggestions regarding furniture and materials.
The Interior Designer's comments
The designers gladly accepted the Customer's request to give a new look to this spacious penthouse overlooking one of Liguria's most popular beaches. This seaside apartment is meant for summer living and occasional weekend getaways throughout the year. A close collaboration between the Customer and the interior designers facilitated the identification of all the Customer's desires during the initial consultation phase, allowing for the proposal of furnishing ideas that perfectly aligned with their expectations. The primary goal was to create cosy, refined spaces suitable for family gatherings. The final result: a beautifully designed beach house accommodating 4 to 6 people.
The furnishing project encompassed every room in the house, with a special emphasis on the open-plan living area, spanning approximately 27 square metres. For the living room, several configurations were considered before arriving at the final design, which includes a
spacious bespoke wall unit system housing a TV compartment and a
corner sofa positioned beneath two windows.
To create the wooden wall unit, masonry work was suggested, specifically the use of plasterboard to seamlessly integrate the unit into the wall, recessed in a niche. A large living room storage unit, constructed with plain doors and a Tobacco-coloured aged oak wood structure, was customised to feature a central module with a TV compartment, open shelving, and wall units. On the right, a column with shelves provides additional storage, while the left-side column is arranged as a bar cabinet. Opening the doors reveals an exclusive
bar unit with shelves and racks for bottles, glasses and tumbler glasses. LED lighting strips add to the luxurious atmosphere.
Opposite the TV cabinet is a
290 x 300 cm corner sofa in white bouclè woven fabric with decorative cushions. To match the upholstered furniture,
modern coffee tables have been chosen: an 80cm x 40cm oval coffee table with a black chrome metal frame and a Canaletto walnut top, a Ø 40cm round end table with a black chrome metal frame and a porcelain stoneware top, a Ø 40cm round end table with a black chrome metal frame and a Canaletto walnut top. The relaxation area is framed by a
160 x 230 cm rectangular rug with a vintage pattern in shades of sand and grey and is illuminated by a
195 cm high floor lamp with a Bronze powder-coated metal shade and structure, a Satin Brass metal cylinder and Alabaster diffuser.
Opposite the relaxation area, but still within the same open plan living space, is the dining area. We designed a
custom-made corner kitchen measuring 380 x 320 cm, complete with sink, kitchenette, oven and microwave column, refrigerator column, large work surface and support, numerous shelves and storage compartments. To meet the Customer's requirements and to maintain stylistic and chromatic consistency in the open space, we customised a top model from our kitchen collection, choosing a functional configuration that adapts to structural constraints such as doors and windows, while maintaining a modern and clean style, neutral colours and design details and accessories. Note the wall units that reach up to the ceiling - an aesthetic detail that also provides ample storage space - the boiserie wood panel that acts as a backsplash to the work area, extending to the ceiling, and the LED light strips positioned under the shelves to illuminate the worktop and create atmosphere.
The kitchen includes a dining area with a
modern design table with an Emperador Brown glossy ceramic glass top and a central base in Bronze lacquered metal. A 180 x 100 cm table was chosen, which can be extended to 225 or 270 cm to seat around 10 people. The extensions follow the barrel lines of the top: a stylish detail that shows the quality of this furniture.
A set of chairs/armchairs upholstered in white fabric with Bronze metal legs matches the structure of the table.
The second part of the project involved designing the bedroom furniture. For the two double bedrooms, we proposed modern solutions with luxurious and distinctive details.
The master bedroom has a standard 160x200 cm double bed upholstered in Aqua Green fabric, with a built-in storage unit featuring transparent plexiglass square legs and a reversible upholstered headboard with vertical striped quilting and buckle trim. To the side of the bed we have placed two suspended bedside tables with a drawer and an open compartment. The upper shelf is made of transparent glass, but the exclusive detail is the LED lighting system that frames the area. The lighting is also used for the matching chest of drawers hanging on the opposite wall: a 6-drawer chest in two-tone wood and lacquer. The characteristic scenic element of this room is the back wall covered with wallpaper featuring an abstract pattern in shades of grey, black, and blue. This pattern is complemented by the colours of the bed covering, the decorative cushions, and the rug.
The second bedroom is furnished with a 160x200cm container bed with a boiserie headboard made up of upholstery and wooden panels. The wooden side panels support suspended bedside tables with two drawers and have ad hoc workmanship for the insertion of plates for the light switches. The bedside table is illuminated by 26 cm Ø pendant lamps in a Black Nickel finish, featuring a unique metal cage lampshade that creates an intriguing interplay of light and shadow. A true gem of bespoke design in this room is the 7-door wardrobe with variable depth. In order not to interfere with the flow of the room and to maximise storage space, we designed a wardrobe with doors of varying depths: smaller at the door and deeper where it is not in the way. To make the room even more functional, we planned to use the wall opposite the bed by inserting a wall-mounted TV and a wooden chest of drawers with an open shelf. To add a special touch, we also designed a relaxation and reading area featuring a comfortable low armchair without armrests upholstered in two-tone faux leather and fabric and a 165 cm high floor lamp in matt black lacquered metal with a lampshade in matching fabric.
This modern penthouse also includes a third small room (not shown in this project sheet), for which we opted to furnish with a sofa bed after consulting with the Customer. A practical, convertible solution to consider when two extra beds are needed.
The project of furnishing a holiday home by the sea continued with the choice of bathroom furniture. For the large master bathroom, we chose a
long wall-hung vanity unit with a double oval washbasin. This composition stands out for its generous dimensions and, above all, for its structure of solid walnut slats applied by hand by expert craftsmen. The fronts are equipped with a push-pull opening. The bathroom cabinet is completed by a large mirror with applied transparent glass shelves that almost blend in, creating special reflections.
The second bathroom in the penthouse is smaller and designed for service use. However, the selected furnishings, finishes, and stylish details transform it into a luxurious, modern, and
highly elegant service bathroom. Its most striking feature is the
sky-effect dresswall: an original luminous ceiling adorned with a white and blue print resembling a sky with clouds. This system is easy to assemble, disassemble, and transport, making it perfect for expressing one's personality even in bathroom décor.
In terms of composition, the choice of a
bespoke powder blue lacquered
wall-mounted bathroom cabinet with cane fronts is worth noting. From left to right, it includes a washing machine base unit with a door concealing the appliance and a base unit with suspended drawers. In the lower area, two custom white lacquered storage units have been designed to function as laundry baskets.
After selecting the interior furnishings, the interior designers turned their attention to the outdoor terrace, featuring a motorised pergola that can function as an awning. On one side, there is an outdoor living room furnished with a sofa, armchair, and low table. On the other side, you'll find a white extendable table paired with metal chairs featuring upholstered cushions. The colour palette chosen for this terrace draws inspiration from the surrounding seascape, with light and bright tones, including white and various shades of blue. Access to this terrace is provided through two French doors, which, when opened, create a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Furnishing a penthouse apartment by the sea and transforming it into a holiday home for 4 to 6 people: the project is finished, the requirements met and the Customer satisfied.
